DELIVER KANSAS CITY FROM “TEMPTATIONS”
By: Sam Meier and Bill Scholl
We urgently need the prayer support and physical presence from the Catholic community to stop a strip club from expanding in downtown Kansas City Missouri! Less than 100 yards from the Sprint Center (which is where 20,000 Catholic youth will gather in 2009 for the National Catholic Youth Conference), there is a strip club called “Temptations” that is pressuring the City Planning and Zoning Committee to nearly quadruple the size of it’s facility.
On Tuesday, May 20, please join us in praying a rosary in front of “Temptations,” 1517 Grand, at 5:30 p.m. Signs will be provided by the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas and the Diocese of Kansas City – St. Joseph. Just bring your rosaries and a prayerful heart.
A Mass will follow the rosary at Sacred Heart Guadalupe, 2544 Madison, KCMO, at 6:30 p.m.> We will pray for members of the City Planning and Zoning Committee, the owners and staff at “Temptations,” and the people who support this business.
The following day, Wednesday May 21 at 1:30 p.m., we need to pack City Hall, 414 E. 12th St., at the City Planning and Zoning Committee City meeting, which is the City Council Chamber on the 26th floor. On that day there will be the fourth Planning and Zoning meeting about “Temptations.” Over 100 people came last time and showed their support to stop strip club expansion in favor of a family friendly environment in Kansas City.
Phillip and Cathy Cosby from The National Coalition for the Protection of Children and Families along with attorney Jim Jenkins are doing a phenomenal job in presenting other options to the Planning and Zoning Committee to help clean up the current establishment without expansion, and poking holes into the arguments of the adult industry’s lawyer.
We need your courageous presence and prayers next week to help stop the expansion of a place that is already an embarrassment to our area. If you cannot be there physically, please lift up this battle in your prayers, and God bless all of you.
Claude Sasso with KEXS radio, 1090 AM, interviewed Crosby and Bill Scholl, social justice consultant with the Archdiocese, about the effort to stop the club’s expansion. The interview will be repeated on the following days:
· Saturday, May 17, 7 a.m.
· Sunday, May 18, 1 p.m.
· Monday, May 19, 8 a.m.
· Tuesday, May 20, 5 p.m.
· Wednesday, May 21, 7 a.m.
Read the letter from both Bishops opposing "Temptations".
