Message 2000

John Paul II
Encyclical On Missionary Activity
REDEMPTORIS MISSIO

"I SEE THE DAWNING OF A NEW MISSIONARY AGE, WHICH WILL BECOME A RADIANT DAY BEARING AN ABUNDANT HARVEST IF ALL CHRISTIANS, AND MISSIONARIES AND YOUNG CHURCHES IN PARTICULAR RESPOND WITH GENEROSITY AND HOLINESS TO THE CALLS AND CHALLENGES OF OUR TIME."

Dear Friends,

As I once again review the accomplishments of our Office for the Propagation of the Faith I am deeply impressed. I am touched by the generous manner in which the Church of North Eastern Kansas has reached out to assist the work of missionaries throughout the world.

Missionaries in foreign lands - as well as in our own - do immeasurable good in elevating the lot of so many of the world's poor. They make great sacrifices to identify with those less fortunate than ourselves. But there is no question that the greatest benefit which they bring is the opportunity to pass on the Gospel of Jesus to those who do not possess His revealed word.

Because of your participation in this effort our missionaries are able to build up the Body of Christ around the globe. The "new" Churches are showing a vibrancy and enthusiasm that will ultimately enrich us as well. Their marvelous success at promoting vocations to priestly and religious life can teach us much.

Thanks for helping make the dream come true.

Your brother in Christ,

+James Patrick Keleher
Archbishop of Kansas City, Kansas
