The Office of Hispanic Ministry is the Archdiocese’s response to the Hispanic presence. Its primary goal is to bring all Hispanic Catholics into enthusiastic participation in the life and mission of the Church, while strengthening the unity of the One Body of Christ. The Office of Hispanic Ministry will network with other Archdiocesan offices and the local parishes to ensure effective services and pluralistic ministries that develop leadership opportunities for Hispanics and expand the ministerial capacity of parishes to respond to the growing Hispanic presence within the Archdiocese. This mission will be carried out by implementing the Archdiocesan Pastoral Plan for Hispanic Ministry.
EVANGELIZATION FOR HISPANIC CATHOLICS
- Mission Statement
Hispanic Ministry is the Archdiocese’s response to the Hispanic presence. SERVICES
Advisory Council for Hispanic Ministry
Is an advisory board to the Archbishop and to the office of Hispanic Ministry, it meets every other month. Its mission: to work at the implementation of the Archdiocesan Plan for Hispanic Ministry. It has five active committees.
Advocacy for Immigrants
The office is actively involved in advocacy on behalf of immigrants. We work in close collaboration with El Centro in Kansas City, Kansas as well as the Bishops Campaign for Immigration Reform.
Consultation & Planning
We are available for consulting and planning regarding issues that relate to Hispanic Ministry.
Cursillo Movement
“Means a little Course” in Spanish. It is a Catholic Evangelization Movement for the laity to renew their Catholic faith. Four Spanish Cursillos are planned for each year at Savior Pastoral Center.
Formation of Youth
• Encuentro 2006 In 2006, over 2000 Hispanic Young Adults will gather at Notre Dame University and we will be preparing 10 representatives to attend this event.
• Formation of Young Adults Preparation of teams to do outreach to the Hispanic Young Adult through participation in the Institute of Faith and Life formation process.
Formation of Parish Mission Teams
We are available for training of Parish Mission Teams to develop Hispanic Ministry in Parishes.
Impactos Family Retreats
An Impactos Weekend is planned every year. Impactos is a family weekend retreat given in Spanish to promote the solidarity of Christian marriage and to promote effective communication and parenting skills. The retreats take place in different parishes of the Archdiocese.
Leaven Newspaper Articles
A monthly article is written in the Leaven to sensitize people to the reality of the Hispanic community.
Liturgical Training & Formation
The office provides training for the various Liturgical Ministries: Eucharistic Ministries, Lectors, Ushers and Altar Servers. Please contact the office for more information.
Guadalupe School of Evangelization
This program of faith formation was founded to prepare the community to be active Disciples in the ministry of Evangelization. We currently have two programs in place:
Level I – Basic Catholic Faith Formation: A series of short-term courses carried out in the local parishes.
Level 2 – Formation of Catholic Laity for the New Evangelization:
A yearlong faith formation program is held at the Hispanic Ministry Office.
Quinceañera Retreats
Four Quinceañera retreats are planned each year. A certificate will be awarded each candidate who attends the retreat in order to adequately prepare for their celebration of the Quinceañera at their local parish. The retreat is held at different locations in the Archdiocese.
Radio Program – Levántate Católico
The office co-sponsors three hours and fifteen minutes of live radio that focuses on evangelization every Sunday. We can be heard on 1250am (2:00am-4:00am, 9:50am-10:05am and 5:00pm-6:00pm).

ARCHDIOCESAN PASTORAL PLAN INITIATIVES 2004 – 2009 1. Welcome and recognize the presence of Hispanics, especially the newly arrived Immigrant, to the life of the Church. 2. Support the formation and development of Hispanic leadership and ecclesial lay ministers. 3. Promote evangelization and conversion to Christ, which brings about the enthusiastic and conscious participation of Hispanics in the life of the Church. 4. Develop relevant and sustainable programs that support comprehensive catechetical and sacramental preparation at the parish level. 5. Develop liturgical resources that embrace the Hispanic culture and elements of popular Catholic religious expression at the archdiocesan and parish level, by recognizing the unique gifts of spirituality and stewardship that Hispanics embrace. 6. Strengthen the community through intercultural dialogue and activities that support the concept of “unity in diversity.” 7. Give the Church in NE Kansas a voice in Spanish by supporting and encouraging the Hispanic community to be active participants in the social mission of the Church. 8. Actively seek ways to affirm, promote, strengthen marriages and support the strong family values of Hispanics. 9. Reach out to Hispanic youth by supporting/developing efforts at the archdiocesan and parish level, which involve them in the life of the Church, utilize their unique gifts and enhance their spiritual development. 10. Develop more education opportunities for Hispanic students from pre-kindergarten to graduate school by increasing the number of Hispanic students in Catholic schools. 11. Respond to the immigrant, Hispanic population’s need for full participation in our communities and economy by supporting amnesty and other initiatives that address this growing gap.
El Ministerio Hispano es la respuesta de la Arquidiócesis a la presencia Hispana. Su principal objetivo es llevar a todos los Hispanos Católicos a una participación entusiasta en la vida y misión de la Iglesia, mientras se refuerza la unión del cuerpo único de Cristo. La oficina del Ministerio Hispano colaborará con otras oficinas de la Arquidiócesis y parroquias locales para: 1) asegurar ministerios plurales y servicios efectivos que desarrollen oportunidades de liderazgo para los Hispanos. 2) expandir la capacidad ministerial de las parroquias para responder a la creciente presencia de los Hispanos en la Arquidiócesis. Esta misión se llevará a cabo implementando el plan Pastoral de la Arquidiócesis para el Ministerio Hispano.

Estadísticas del Estado de Kansas
El censo 2000 del Estado de Kansas dice que hay 182,252 Hispanos, equivalentes a 141,189 Católicos (basado en el promedio nacional que revela que aproximadamente 75% son Católicos.) Estadísticas de la Arquidiócesis • El censo 2000 muestra a 70,905 Hispanos viviendo en la Arquidiócesis. Esto equivale a cuando menos 53,180 Católicos (de acuerdo con el promedio nacional antes mencionado.) • Los datos del censo 2000 señalan que con aproximadamente 210,000 católicos en la Arquidiócesis, más del 25% son Hispanos. • Sin embargo, los Hispanos tienen en la región el crecimiento poblacional más grande, lo que indicaría que podrían representar el 30% o más de nuestra población Católica.
