How do you know if you are being called to a vocation? What should you meditate on as you consider what God wants you to do with the unique gifts he gave you? Read the following guide as you consider what God may be calling you to do.

VOCATION

Virtue – living a virtuous and holy life will help us discover our vocation. Sin obscures our vision and drives a wedge between us and God. If we want to know more clearly what God wants, we must root sin out of our lives and strive for virtue. Name some virtues? What virtues can you work on now? How do we grow in virtue?

Openness – an important step in discovering our vocation is to be open. How do we do this? What closes off our openness to God’s will?

Calling – a vocation is a calling. Discuss how God calls us. What are some of the ways that God speaks to us? If a vocation is a calling, what disposition must I have to discover my vocation?

Abandonment – a vocation involves surrender, an abandonment of my will to God’s. Often fears

Trust – Surrendering our lives into God’s hands takes great trust. What gives us confidence to place our trust in God? Why is trusting God difficult? What biblical figure do you admire for their trust in God?

Initiative – Receiving a mission, a vocation from God requires initiative and action. One must be willing to take a risk and make a leap of faith. What can you do now to help in your discernment?

Observe – As you discern, observe the signs that God will give you. What are some of the signs that one might be called to the priesthood? What gifts would you bring to the priesthood?

Need – When considering our vocation, we should ponder, “What are the world’s greatest needs?” How would you answer that question?
