Parish Core Team Update #1

Dear Parish Core Team Members:

Thanks to all of you for your participation in the Parish Core Team Training Sessions the week of November 11, 2013. Your positive energy was much appreciated, as were the good questions you asked and your commitment to complete the parish self-assessment.

We are committed to providing you with the resources you need to make this self-evaluation phase as productive as possible. We expect to send out these updates every week or so, to give you the latest information, answer your questions and keep us all focused on the planning process as it unfolds.

Planning Guides available on the web

The English and Spanish versions of the Planning Guide materials in Microsoft Word format have been posted to the archdiocesan web site at   Please share this with your fellow parishioners who are interested in more information on the process.

Next action steps

In the coming weeks, we encourage you to focus on several of the following action steps:

  • Review the Parish Core Team Job Description
  • Discuss the project goals, assumptions and criteria
  • Examine the 5 different ways to involve parishioners in the process
  • Decide which form to use for evaluation - short, long, or combo

For your information . . .

Here are a few updates for your information:

  1. Parish facilitators are ready to assist your team in facilitating core team meetings, parish town hall gatherings and more. These talented men and women can also help you prepare meeting agendas if you wish. There is no cost to you for this service. Please contact one of the Reid Group consultants (contact information in left-hand column) to make the necessary arrangements.
  2. The proposed cluster partner list was distributed at the core team training.  Please review it and if you have questions, send them to Rose Hammes,

Here are some questions we have received so far with initial responses.

Should we begin putting announcements in our bulletins now?

Yes, the sooner you begin sharing information with parishioners, the better.  Sample announcements can be found beginning in Section II, page 78 of 82. Please adjust the content to your own situation.

What about the prayer in the planning process?

You will find prayers and other liturgical resources in Section IV of the Planning Guide and can adapt them for your parish.

When do you think we should do a parish survey?

If you decide to conduct a parish survey as a way to get parishioner input, it is good to do it early in the parish evaluation process, so you have time to analyze the results and communicate them to the parish. Be sure and give yourselves enough time to study and synthesize the results. Remember parish surveys are optional. Two samples are provided in Section II, pages 5 and 6. Call your Reid Group consultant for assistance with surveys.

Thank you again for all your good work. Please do not hesitate to call on one of your Reid Group team members if you have questions.
