Core Team Update #2

Dear Core Team Members:

Thanks to all of you for your hard work on the parish self-evaluations in this phase of the planning process.

We are committed to providing you with the resources you need to make this self-evaluation phase as productive as possible. We expect to send out these updates every week or so, to give you the latest information, answer your questions and keep us all focused on the planning process as it unfolds.

In the coming weeks, we encourage you to focus on several of the following action steps:

  • Review the Parish Core Team Job Description
  • Discuss the project goals, assumptions and criteria
  • Examine the 5 different ways to involve parishioners in the process
  • Decide which form to use for evaluation - short, long, or combo
  • Begin evaluation of your parish life and be prepared to complete your self-evaluation by February 1

For your information . . .

Here are a few updates for your information:

  1. The English and Spanish versions of the Planning Guide in Microsoft Word format are on the archdiocesan web site at   Please share this with your fellow parishioners who are interested in more information on the process.
  2. Parish facilitators are ready to assist your team in facilitating core team meetings, parish town hall gatherings and more.  These talented men and women can also help you prepare meeting agendas if you wish.  There is no cost to you for this service.  Please call or email  one of the Reid Group consultants (contact information below) to make the necessary arrangements.
  3. Continue to communicate with your parishioners about the planning process, using regular bulletin announcements.  Sample announcements can be found beginning in Section II, page 78 of 82.  Please adjust the content to your own situation.
  4. If you decide to conduct a parish survey as a way to get parishioner input, it is good to do it early in the parish evaluation process, so you have time to analyze the results and communicate them to the parish.  Be sure and give yourselves enough time to study and synthesize the results.  Remember parish surveys are optional.  Two samples are provided in Section II, pages 5 and 6.  Call or email your Reid Group consultant for assistance with surveys.

Q.  What is the difference between the parish core team and the school core team?

A.  The parish core team is focused on completing the parish self-evaluation according to the 22 criteria by February 1.  One of those criteria relates to Catholic schools.  The school core teams--which will begin work in January--have as their primary focus the school, in all its dimensions.  Information from both groups can be shared with each other, because we are seeking to create integrated rather than parallel processes.

Thank you again for all your good work. Please do not hesitate to call on one of your Reid Group team members if you have questions.
