Core Team Update #22

Dear Core Team Members:

Pastors, principals and school core teams in the Topeka City Cluster met with the Regional Planning Commission on June 10 for a lively two-hour session of presentation and conversation.  Each principal and pastor presented the case for how their parish and school would respond to the key challenges to be addressed:

  1. To secure the necessary revenue that will ensure that the Catholic schools in the Topeka Region are sustainable.
  2. To try and resolve the two different approaches to funding Catholic schools - a tuition approach and a stewardship approach.
  3. To develop an understanding of what percent of parish ordinary income is realistic for support of Catholic schools.

With this input and discussion, The Regional Planning Commission will prepare the Preliminary Recommendations for Topeka City that will be sent to the Cluster in late June.

For your information . . .

Here are some reminders for the Core teams:

  1. The Topeka City Cluster will hold conversations on the Preliminary Recommendations between late June and early August to formulate their Cluster Responses which will be due later in August.
  2. The Cluster Responses for Topeka East and West have been received by the Regional Planning Commission, which will be making a Final Recommendation directly to Archbishop Naumann in the next month.
  3. Information generated at the Catholic School Summit has been posted on the archdiocesan web site ( under the heading Proclaim Cafe.
  4. Parish facilitators are ready to serve you as you move through the Cluster phase of the process.  Just contact either John or Karen to make arrangements.  Remember, there is no cost to you for this service.

Thank you again for all your good work. Please do not hesitate to call on one of your Reid Group team members if you have questions.
